Technical System Details
What is a Solar Carport?
A solar carport is a specialized overhead canopy built to cover parking areas. Unlike typical rooftop installations, this requires a standalone steel structure to support the photovoltaic (PV) modules. This allows the area underneath to remain fully functional for vehicle parking while the roof surface captures sunlight.
Understanding BIPV (Building Integrated Photovoltaics)
The SIA Engineering project is classified as BIPV because the solar panels are integrated directly into the infrastructure. The structure is designed to withstand local wind loads and environmental conditions common in Changi.
Grid-Tied Connection
This 707 kWp system is a grid-tied solar solution. This means the energy generated is used immediately by the facility to offset active power consumption, reducing the total draw from the national power grid.
The structural steel framework was designed and endorsed by a Professional Engineer (PE) to ensure full compliance with BCA wind-load and safety regulations.
