Cripton Engineering was the Main Contractor for the Singapore Discovery Centre Solar project, delivering a 1.7 MWp Net-Zero system.
🏆 Singapore Book of Records Holder
Recognized by the Singapore Book of Records as the ‘Longest Sheltered Walkway Fitted with Solar Panels’ (196 Meters).

Project Snapshot
- Project Site: Singapore Discovery Centre (510 Upper Jurong Rd)
- Project Name: Singapore Discovery Centre Solar Transformation.
- System Size: 1,700 kWp (1.7 MWp)
- Role: Main Contractor (Turnkey EPC)
- System Type: Hybrid Deployment (BIPV Walkway + Rooftop Solar + Floating Solar PV)
- Key Achievement: Powering Singapore’s First Net-Zero Energy Museum
The Challenge
The Singapore Discovery Centre aimed to become a “Net-Zero Energy Museum,” requiring a massive renewable energy overhaul. As the Main Contractor, Cripton was tasked with transforming the campus infrastructure—including existing walkways and water bodies—into active power-generating assets without disrupting the visitor experience.
Why We Built the Singapore Discovery Centre Solar System
The Engineering Solution
Cripton delivered a multi-phase engineering feat that now holds a national record:
- The Record-Breaking Walkway: We designed and constructed a 196-meter solar-integrated shelter. This dual-purpose structure provides weather protection for visitors while serving as a linear power plant.
- Campus-Wide Integration: Beyond the walkway, we deployed thousands of panels across the main building roof and the discovery lake (floating PV), creating a unified microgrid that offsets the centre’s energy consumption.
The Result
This project is a landmark in Singapore’s Green Plan 2030. The Singapore Discovery Centre Solar system successfully delivers Net-Zero energy, proving that functional infrastructure can be transformed into sustainable icons.
